Established in 1989 as a small business specialising in Natural Stonework ranging from Drystane Dyking (field boundary walls built from stone without the use of mortar)to ornamental garden features,using only natural materials to enhance the environment.The business is run by myself (Robert Duncan)covering mainly the Southwest of Scotland.My work ranges from Farm Contracts(mainly E.S.A./C.S.S grant work) and Estate Maintenance(gapping,repair,coping),to ornamental work around gardens or private houses(edging,flower borders,paving,steps,landscaping and of course Dyking).There is nothing more pleasing on the eye than natural stone to enhance any garden,landscape or property.Drystane Dykes are also very environmentally friendly and provide habitat and shelter for all sorts of small animals/birds/insects and reptiles.Maintenance costs are much lower than,for example fences, which may last 15 years.A properly built Drystane Dyke should last at least 100 years.Various examples of my work can be viewed in the gallery section.These traditional skills are now coming back into demand with the awareness that the traditional forms of land management are more beneficial to the native wildlife of this country. Schemes such as the Countryside Stewardship Scheme and the Farm Woodland Premium Scheme are now giving grants to landowners, to ensure that their boundaries and woodlands are repaired and maintained at a suitable standard to achieve a greater balance between successful agriculture and conservation.
